The 'new' FA

Welcome to the 'new' FA.
Yes it may appear to be the same ole FA, but much has been greatly changed and improved (though most of the upgrades and changes are more 'behind the scenes', believe me when I say it really is a 'new' and better FA), and as always your feedback is the lifeblood that keeps FA alive, so feel free to contact me via email or the forums to transfuse your feedback to keep FA going strong.

I ask for your patience as I get things up to speed (be it updating all the downloads listings, the web links and all the other assorted facets of FA).

Thanks,
Scott

Members - Please READ......

Sadly one of several segments of data that could not be transitioned over to the 'new' FA was all the "members infos", so if you would 'again' like to be a member (which also allows one to post to the forums, and submit freeware for possible listing on FA), I kindly ask you again register.

I apologize for this possible inconvenience for some, but there was no easy workaround to this.

Thank Yous

With the launch of the 'new' FA, I must say a few 'thank yous'.
First a huge Thank You to Mr. Steven Burn of Ur I.T. Mate Group for the tireless hours (actually days and days) of work in making the 'new' a reality.

Second another huge Thank You to long time FA member and friend, Higgy - who also has tirelessly continued his work (esp. in the forums) to keep things going without missing a beat.

Though much work still needs done on the 'new' FA, I will as alwys do my best, and ask for your patience with the final stages of transition of FA. With my Mom's rapid decline (esp. w/her Parkinson's) it is a huge challenge to get FA back up to speed, and 'delivering the 100% real freeware goods' as those familiar with FA know I seek to do.
And to those of you who have provided much appreciated support through the years - Thank You for allowing FA to be around for these now past 12 years, for I couldn't do this alone...thank you.

Regards,
Scott

Forums and spammers

FreewareArena Ok, I will be blunt.
I do NOT have time to play games with imbeciles who abuse the forums by posting spam, ok?
If you didn't read the 'rules' let me spell it out plainly for you - posting of NON freeware programs, will result in removal of such garbage.
Further, said actions can and probably will be dealt with by removal of your account.
It's that simple - my time is limited in working on FA for such scum to insult this site and it's forums by posting such trash will not be tolerated.

Phone it in....

FreewareArena I had awhile back signed up with a free voicemail service called GrandCentral.com (which Google has since taken over/bought).
And just figured, "why not post up the number and allow you the guests (friends) of FA to be able to leave me a voicemail message?".

It does have a time limit for messages of 2 minutes, but it will enable me to be able to receive voicemails from anyone who should wish to do so.

I have not recorded a more personal greeting for the service, so don't be put off when you get the "The Grandcentral subscriber...blah blah" canned message/greeting.

Now you can call this number, but it might be a toll call for those not in the area code for the number I registered for, course the workarounds for such are plenty - using a VOiP number, Skype (this is NOT an endorsement for such), or any of the other "free" calling services.

So I'd really like to hear from you, and it also will be an opportunity to actually "hear" from you all.

Criteria for "freeware" listings on FA

FreewareArena :: This is yet AGAIN reposted as I am still getting non-freeware submissions ::

A brief overview of some of the basic criteria I/FreewareArena use in determining listings on this site :

* - Is it NOT shareware, a trial, a demo.
* - It does NOT contain spyware, nor contain adware that is intrusive << These are the key initial tests, if any of these are failed, I go no further with the program/app.
For as I have repeatedly stated since 1997 on this site, I am NOT anti shareware or other 'wares' wherein the developer(s) seek renumeration for their original works, that is their choice, I merely reflect that this is a freeware only site. And in that, listings on FreewareArena are arrived at to reflect such.
* - Does the program/app do what is "claims" to do.
* - Does it peform the previous requirement effectively in my testing.
* - Is it majorly error/bug free (if not 100%); this is to say that it is not impossible for another user to possibly encounter errors or such on their system depending on various factors and variables.
* - Also, does the program overtly and blatantly "rip-off" another program. I don't mean does it do very similarly what another program does, but rather is it the SAME as another program save for perhaps a different graphic/logo or other tiny "alteration" I have no tolerance for plagarism.

Again, these are the initial and basics that I use as a guide for what may eventually be listed. And I provide this so as to inform potential submitters of programs/apps, so as to not waste their valuable time that could be best served submitting their programs to a site that has different criteria.
